Tube agates are notable for having ‘scratches’ or hair-like projections cutting the solid color. These projections are mineral rods that form alongside the silica in the early phases of the natural development of agates. In some cases, weathering causes the mineral projections to become hollow, but then again, silica fills the gaps eventually.
